Tamar Katz Receives Third Sentence
Conscientious objector, Tamar Katz, a signatory of the 2008 high school seniors refusal letter, was sentenced today, 1 Dec, to 21 days in military prison in solitary confinement.
Tamar refuses to wear the military prison uniform so subsequently the duration of her sentence will be in solitary confinement, in the Isolation Ward of the prison. Conditions in the Isolation Wards in Israeli prisons are harsh, and various forms of mistreatment have been documented in the past.
To date this is Tamar’s third sentence in prison and after her release later this month, she will have served a total of 51 days in military jail since September 2008.
Tamar, while also adhering to a more general pacifist outlook, chose to focus her refusal on the Israeli military and its treatment of Palestinians.
Her address in prison is:
Tamar Katz
Military ID 5396326
Military Prison No. 400
Military Postal Code 02447, IDF
Israel
Fax: ++972-3-9579389
